Today's rainbows are brought to us by two talented crafters :) Nicola Susen created a knitting pattern called Longitudinal that allows you to knit beautiful lengthwise stripes of color without any disruption of the color changes:
So unique! And Kylie showed us how soft and gorgeous Crystal Palace Mini Mochi wool yarn can be!
Love it! Thanks so much ladies :)

Rainbow Crochet Playground
This playground is so awesome, I hardly know what words to use to describe it! It was created by Japanese artist Toshiko Horiuchi-MacAdam for the Hakone Open Air Museum in Hakone, Japan.
I just began teaching myself how to crochet and cannot even fathom crocheting something so large and intricate!
Read all about it and see more amazing pictures here :)

Rainbow Eucalyptus Tree
While I may have seen a rainbow of colors in a tree's leaves before, I had never seen a rainbow tree trunk until now!
Rainbow Eucalyptus trees come from the Philippine islands. They only grow in tropical climates and they're just gorgeous!
You can purchase them online here. I sure wish they would grow where I live! :)

Tetrachromacy - Super Human Vision
Did you know that there are women in the world who can see millions of colors that are invisible to everyone else? A typical human being can see one million different colors, but research shows that some special women can see one hundred times that amount!
This ability has to do with having four cones in their eyes as opposed to the normal three. And all four are active! Only one of these individuals, called tetrachromats, has so far been identified. But British neuroscientist, Gabriele Jordan, is not stopping there. Through more research and testing, she hopes to identify more of these women, and perhaps help them develop their ability.
You can read all about this phenomenon in Discovery Magazine. And here is a shortened version on io9.com.
I bet ALL of us Rainbow Geeks are tetrachromats! ;)

Handmade Rainbow Blankets
First, I want to welcome all of the new followers of this blog. I'm so happy to have you here and I'm so thankful for all of the comments and submissions you've sent! I'll post as many of them as I can :)
One such submission came from Ru. This is a handmade rainbow blanket that she crafted:
I love the unique design and the bright colors! Great job Ru! You can read all about her blanket here :)
I also came across another unique blanket that I thought ya'll would enjoy. The creator calls it a Rainbow Brite Starghan:
I really need to learn how to do needlework! Both of these would brighten up a room so much :) You can learn about the Starghan here. Great work Rainbow Geeks!

Somewhere Over the Rainbow
Yes, this is my second Wizard of Oz related post in a week, but it's just that good! How many of us wished we'd wake up one morning and be "over the rainbow" in a colorful world filled with magic? Well, minus the evil witches :) I know I did! I've loved this film for as long as I can remember and this song is one of my favorites.
Also, did you know that every year there is a Wizard of Oz festival held in upstate New York? It's called Oz-Stravaganza. It happens the first weekend in June and is held in Chittenango, NY, where Oz author, L. Frank Baum, was born. I want to go so badly!
I'll leave you with one more Oz related item. There's a card game that was recently released called Oz Fluxx, created by Looney Labs. I had the pleasure of meeting the Looney family and playing this game several months ago and I can vouch that it's super fun - especially if you're an Oz fan!
Have an over the rainbow day Rainbow Geeks! :)

The Ascension of Polychrome
My friend, Kevenn T. Smith, is an extremely talented artist and an all around awesome person. He's a big fan of the Wizard of Oz book series and recently drew a new piece featuring the colorful character, Polychrome:
I'm very familiar with the Wizard of Oz movies, but have never read the books. Knowing that this rainbow character exists within those pages is certainly making me want to give them a try! See more about this piece and Kevenn's other art here :)

Complete Quadruple Rainbow
At first glance, this looks like a typical double rainbow. But notice that this photo was taken facing towards the sun, not away from it. The other two bows are actually behind the photographer :)
This is the first fourth-order rainbow ever reported in nature! WICKED!! Read more about this awesome phenomenon here :)

Rainbow Post-It Car
I've played my share of pranks, but this one takes the cake! A car COVERED in post-it notes!
This was done for someone's 30th birthday, but I can think of all kinds of occasions that could warrant this work of art ;) Read about the prank and see more pictures here. Thanks to Petteri for the tip!
