Did you know that there are women in the world who can see millions of colors that are invisible to everyone else? A typical human being can see one million different colors, but research shows that some special women can see one hundred times that amount!
This ability has to do with having four cones in their eyes as opposed to the normal three. And all four are active! Only one of these individuals, called tetrachromats, has so far been identified. But British neuroscientist, Gabriele Jordan, is not stopping there. Through more research and testing, she hopes to identify more of these women, and perhaps help them develop their ability.
You can read all about this phenomenon in Discovery Magazine. And here is a shortened version on io9.com.
I bet ALL of us Rainbow Geeks are tetrachromats! ;)
